Jamaar Smiley, also known as the "Voice of the Northwest", is a Spoken Word Artist, Poet, Educator and Author of a book that chronicles the growth of black and underprivileged men in America, titled The Epilogue. Born on the South Side of Chicago and grew up in Burien, Washington, he began writing at a young age to express and gain a better understanding of himself. While attending Midland University in Nebraska, that understanding would come full circle.

Jamaar finds himself lucky to go through life with the experiences that he’s had. It taught him the value of staying focused and growing every day. Those are life Gems that remain priceless.

After leaving Nebraska he pursued a career in non-profit education. Inspired by leaders like James P. Garrett and Frederick Douglass, he started and popularized the “Real Life Impact” Movement to promote values like consciousness, community and liberation for all people. In 2015, Jamaar shifted his focus from Non-Profit Organizations to creating motivational and educational content through various platforms.

“Through Creativity and Direction, I want to motivate people to become independent thinkers inspired to achieve their own individual happiness.”

His art, often described as the love child of Saul Williams and Nikki Giovani, has reached cities and institutions nationwide. He has shared the stage with many influencers of this generation from International Award-winning Artists like the Canadian Song bird, Gina Williams, to Community Organizer and Humanitarian Rizza Islam.

A Truly Impactful Artist. The type of change and inspiration we need in our communities today.
